MEN'S HEALTH CHECKS

Every 2 years we recommend a health check for men aged 40 - 70 yrs.

This will include the following Cardiovascular Risk Factors, BMI, Blood Pressure, Prostate Check & Lifestyle Advice

MEN'S SEXUAL HEALTH

PRE-CONCEPTION & INFERTILITY

Most couples fall pregnant within a year of trying to conceive. 25% of infertility is due to male factors. We can arrange semen analysis and provide specialist referrals if necessary.

SEXUAL HEALTH

The use of condoms is recommended to reduce the risk of common STD’s (herpes, gonorrhoea and chlamydia) and more serious possibly fatal STD’s (syphilis, HIV, Hepatitis). If you think you have been at risk or show symptoms (genital lesions or penile discharge) confidential help is available from your doctor.

ERECTILE DISFUNCTION

There are a wide range of treatments available for erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence. Occasional erectile dysfunction is common and may be caused by stress, alcohol, anxiety or lack of sleep. Ongoing erection problems should be investigated by a doctor to check for medical causes which can be treated.

CANCER

PROSTRATE CANCER

Men over 45 with a family history of prostate cancer and all men over 50 may request an annual blood test to screen for prostate cancer and Digital Rectal Examination (DRE). Any symptoms of Prostatitis (urinary frequency, dribbling , poor stream, passing blood) should be discussed with your doctor.

TESTICULAR CANCER

Testicular cancer mainly affects young men between the ages of 20 and 39. It is also more common in men who have had an undescended testicle or a family history of cancer. Symptoms include pain, swelling or lumps in your testicles or groin. Most cases can be treated especially if found early.

SKIN CANCER

Outdoor workers are at higher risk of skin cancer due to sun exposure. We recommend annual skin checks for men over 40, all outdoor workers and anyone with a family history of melanoma.

CHRONIC ILLNESS

You may be eligible for a GP Care Plan, which can provide access to Medicare rebates for allied health services. Care Plans are offered for men with conditions such as Heart Disease, Diabetes or Asthma.

VETERANS

Veterans with a DVA Gold Card may be eligible for additional support through the Co–ordinated Veterans Care (CVC) programme. Please contact our CVC co-ordinator to discuss eligibility.

OVER 75 CHECKS

Patients over 75 are offered an annual check up which includes assessment of mobility, activities of daily living & screening for dementia.

COUNSELLING

Depression is a common issue for men and often presents as misuse of alcohol. Men who are experiencing problems with depression or anxiety should seek advice from their GP. The programme for Better Access to Mental Health provides for referral to psychological services through a GP Mental Health Plan.
